Service Orders

Starting in 2023 we are adding Service Honors to recognize the contributions of our community to our campaign.

Membership can be recommended by any player or staff member. In most cases, there will only no more than one Initiate inducted into each Order every session during the wrap up at the conclusion of the days events.

Submit recommendations to gatewaylarp@gmail.com with the tile "Service Order Nomination"

Everyone's badges will be adorned with the emblems of the Orders to which they belong.

Members begin as Initiates but there are two other ranks in each Order - Revered Master and Legendary Grandmaster.

Elevating an Initiate to the rank of Revered Master requires a recommendation of at least 3 members of that Order. When the recommendation is made, it must be submitted with "proof of worth" which includes at least two specific Deeds - specific things that the candidate has done that make them worthy of elevation.

Elevating a Revered Master to Legendary Grandmaster requires a recommendation of at least 5 members of that Order. The proof of worth for a proposed Legendary Grandmaster must include a "Great Deed" - a singular accomplishment that has altered the way the campaign is played or experienced.

When submitting nominations for elevation to Revered Mastery or Legendary Grandmastery have one person email gatewaylarp@gmail.com with the tile "Service Order Nomination". Be sure to list the names of all of those that are making the nomination and any Deeds or Great Deeds that are required as Proof of Worth.

In all cases, the goal is for these honors to be confirmation and recognition of what is already evident to the community.

I have opened our roles with only one Revered Master and one Legendary Grandmaster for each Order. Please do not be disappointed if you were not chosen. The reason the Service Orders were created is that your efforts are seen and appreciated. I expect the lists will fill up to where they ought to be relatively quickly. If you are deserving your time will come.

Order of the Chalice

This honor is for those who provide service to the group. Members of the Order gladly do what are all too often thankless jobs that are critical for an event running smoothly. Setting up, packing away, cleaning up, serving, cooking, coordinating and executing logistical concerns such as coordinating check in and check out. We all know who they are and they tend to be the same people week after week.

Order of the Dodecagon

One of the ways Gateway is unique is its blend of live action and tabletop elements. This structure requires players willing to create ttrpg elements and to spend at least some of their time at each event facilitating expeditions. These are the Gamemasters who you can call upon with rules questions and who take you on adventures.

Order of the Horn

Members of this Order not only have ways to keep themselves entertained, they involve others in activities that expand play possibilities and add color to the event. These are the tavern gamers, tale tellers, musicians and those who facilitate archery contests, arena fighting and boffer sparring. Bringing moments to share improves the experience for everyone.

Order of the Mask

This honor is for costumers and those who help others with their costumes. This includes garb, makeup (including prosthetics and special effects makeup) and hand props. We have no costume requirements other than "do the best you can and if you are playing a nonhuman character do something that makes your choice obvious" but members of the Order elevate the looks and feel of our events.
